Borussia Dortmund kick-started their tilt at a second straight UEFA Champions League final with a convincing 3-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille in Group F.

The Bundesliga leaders brought their impressive domestic form back to the European stage with a dominant showing and deservedly went in front when Robert Lewandowski capped a trademark breakaway with a simple finish. When Marco Reus's free-kick caught out Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda to make it two early in the second half there was no way back for last season's Ligue 1 runners-up, who conceded again late on as Lewandowski added a third from the spot.

Match in 5

  • Dortmund secure first victory over Marseille
  • Lewandowski double and Reus free-kick secure win
  • Dortmund surpass 300 UEFA competition goals
  • Marseille suffer fifth successive UEFA Champions League loss
  • OM host Napoli next, Klopp's men travel to Arsenal

Reaction

We played well and executed our plan perfectly. Marseille didn't have any real chances, which is very satisfying.

They are a very good team and played the more simple football. We had good intentions but performed below par.
