Despite Thierry Henry's fine second-half goal, Arsenal FC were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League at the first knockout round stage, the English champions' 1-0 win on the night failing to overturn FC Bayern München's 3-1 first-leg lead.
Felix Magath, Bayern coach
At least one German team has got into the next round. If you look at the results generally it's good for all of us that we got through. But it's not nice that we're the only ones through to the next round; the only German team left in European competition. I'd like our Bundesliga rivals like Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen still to be in there. I never thought that we wouldn't win, even when it was clear that Roy Makaay wouldn't be playing. We are far too strong anyway. We have shown in the last few games that we are very solid in defence and I was sure we could do it. Of course, we got a bit nervous after the goal went in but we played a good, controlled game and deserved to get through.
Arsène Wenger, Arsenal manager
We lost it in Munich - the way we gave the goals away. Tonight we had a good defensive performance. I feel it was a very balanced game and both teams played well. We can congratulate the team for a fantastic effort. It was very close in the end and we lost to a very good side. We scored at the right moment of the game and got a feeling that if you keep a clean sheet you can score a goal. We had a good game against a good side and the difference was small but we just didn't do enough. You have seen good young players tonight who have a good future in that competition.
