First-half goal calms Ancelotti

Coach Carlo Ancelotti said Andriy Shevchenko's goal put AC Milan in command against their city rivals.

AC Milan booked their place in the last four of the UEFA Champions League in unsatisfactory circumstances after the second leg of their quarter-final tie with FC Internazionale Milano was abandoned due to crowd trouble. Andriy Shevchenko had scored the only goal of the game, which was eventually stopped after 75 minutes, with Milan well on course for a last-four encounter with either PSV Eindhoven or Olympique Lyonnais.

Roberto Mancini, Inter coach
I am really sorry because we are out of the competition. We did everything we could. It was a really balanced game and Milan converted the first chance they had, as they did before this season - and Milan's goalkeeper Dida is almost unbeatable. But I am really sorry about the way the game ended. I have nothing to blame my players for and I have nothing to say to the supporters.

Carlo Ancelotti, Milan coach
We performed pretty well in the first half but not after the break. It was a really well-balanced game with Inter obviously forced to attack. Shevchenko's goal made things far more easier. But I am really sorry for the way that this top game ended. I am not extremely satisfied with today's performance but I am glad to have reached the semi-finals. We have achieved a really important goal. I do not have any favoured opponents for the semi-final, PSV and Lyon are more or less the same.
