Two first-half goals from Andrius Velicka gave FBK Kaunas a priceless away win and helped secure a two-goal advantage in his side's UEFA Champions League first qualifying round tie against Faroe Islands champions HB Tórshavn.
Velicka struck once in the opening spell and again midway through the first period to put Kaunas firmly in control. HB hit back minutes after Velicka's second to give the home team hope, only for the lead to be restored minutes later as Arkadiusz Klimek found the net for the visitors. Rókur av Fløtum Jespersen reduced the deficit again for the hosts but Irmantas Zelmikas's goal just after the break completed an emphatic scoreline for Kaunas.
Lithuanian champions Kaunas are now favourites to progress to the second qualifying round at the expense of Tórshavn, with a glamour tie against Liverpool FC the possible reward. The European champions defeated Total Network Solutions FC of Wales 3-0 in a one-sided first leg at Anfield this evening.
