Sheriff arrest Sliema hopes

Sliema Wanderers FC 1-4 FC Sheriff Alexandru Epureanu helps the Moldovan team record a comprehensive win.

Moldovan champions FC Sheriff began their UEFA Champions League campaign in style as they recorded a superb 4-1 victory against Maltese counterparts Sliema Wanderers FC in the first leg of their first qualifying round encounter.

Kuchuk double
Alexandu Epureanu started and finished the scoring for Sheriff, with further goals from Aliaksei Kuchuk and George Florescu making their lead unassailable. Daniel Bogdanovic grabbed a consolation for the home team with 18 minutes left but it was too little, too late from the Maltese side, who exited the competition at the first hurdle last season.

Partizan test
Serbo-Montenegrin champions FK Partizan await the winner of the tie in the second qualifying round, with Leonid Kuchuk's men looking firm favourites to go through having registered such an impressive away success.
