F91 Dudelange may already have been effectively out of this UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie at kick-off, but they came close to a famous result at SK Rapid Wien.
The Austrian side won 6-1 last week, Dudelange having previously become the first Luxembourg team to progress through a Champions League tie. And tonight they showed their were determined to go out with a bang, taking a seventh-minute lead when Cemil Tosun put through his own goal.
Eight minutes from half-time Thomas Gruszczynski made it 2-0 on the night, and although Axel Lawaree, who scored twice last week, pulled one back just after the break, it seemed Rapid were heading for defeat. But nine minutes before the end Lawaree struck again before Matthias Dollinger gave the home team the lead on the night five minutes later. A 9-3 aggregate win duly wrapped up, Rapid now meet FC Lokomotiv Moskva, starting with the home leg next week.
