FH no match for Legia

Legia Warszawa 2-0 FH Hafnarfjördur (agg: 3-0) A comfortable win earned the Polish champions a tie against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.

A comfortable 2-0 home victory against FH Hafnarfjördur meant Legia Warszawa were never in danger of missing out on a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.

Great support
The Polish champions were given great support by a crowd that had gathered in numbers before the match to pay their respects to the country's war dead but in truth the match itself was not much of a contest, given that Legia had already recorded a 1-0 away win in Iceland in the first leg. Despite dominating, the hosts had to wait until the closing minutes of the first half before finding the breakthrough. Good work by Sebastian Szalachowski on the right finished with a cross to Aleksandar Vuković, who made no mistake for the opening goal.

Wasteful finishing
Legia were generally profligate in front of goal, with Piotr Włodarczyk missing four good chances. Dawid Janczyk, his replacement on the hour, fared better when his attacking intent saw him upended for a penalty with a quarter of an hour to play. However, Brazilian midfielder Roger Guerreiro saw his spot-kick saved by Dadi Lárusson. FH did their best to play on the counterattack but it was at the other end where a second goal always looked more likely. It came in the closing stages, with Edson, another Brazilian recruit, firing in a fierce shot to wrap up an assured night's work.
