Olympiacos CFP coach Trond Sollied felt his team had only themselves to blame after they slipped to a 1-0 home defeat against AS Roma in UEFA Champions League Group D. Simone Perrotta's late goal for the Italian outfit left the Greek side with only one point from three games, five points behind second-placed Roma.
Trond Sollied, Olympiacos coach
It was a defeat we should have avoided. The match should have ended 0-0 but, at this level, if you give your opponents half a chance they will score. We played well in defence but weren't creative enough in attack. It will be very difficult for us to make it to the next round now but we just have to keep working. This game is in the past now and what we have to do is to focus on the next game and hope to beat Roma in Italy. My players were affected by the two-week break in the Greek league and this was obvious at the beginning of each half. You can't compare the Greek league with Serie A, Roma are used to playing at a very intense level every week but this is not the case for Olympiacos.
Luciano Spalletti, Roma coach
This victory was a big step forward . We were very cautious and managed to shackle both [Predrag] Djordjević and [Nery] Castillo. Olympiacos are a great side but my men did more on the night and in front of such a passionate home crowd they showed that they can take their chances.
