Liverpool FC may have clinched first place in UEFA Champions League Group C with a 2-0 victory against fellow qualifiers PSV Eindhoven, but coach Rafael Benítez felt the win "came at a price" as Xabi Alonso, Mark González and Jermaine Pennant all went off injured at Anfield.
Rafael Benítez, Liverpool manager
I'm really pleased with the victory. It's good for us, good for the supporters and good for the club, but it came at price. It was difficult to manage a game where you lose two players in the first half. I think the players were very professional. It was our aim to finish top of the group and it is pleasing to do that with one game remaining. It was important not to go into that final game [at Galatasaray SK] needing a win. It was also important for Steven Gerrard to score.
Ronald Koeman, PSV coach
In the last two matches we have been quite sloppy at the back and you are not going to create much by being sloppy. The second half was better but in the first half we lost a lot of possession of the ball. I felt we had chances before the first goal and I felt we were in control. We have put together a good range of matches, qualified and, on the whole, we have played quite well.
