Real Madrid CF coach Bernd Schuster was satisfied with the result – but not the performance – after watching his team overcome spirited ten-man Olympiacos CFP in UEFA Champions League Group C to move three points clear at the summit. The German's counterpart Panagiotis Lemonis also had mixed emotions having been denied a memorable result by three second-half strikes.
Bernd Schuster, Real Madrid coach
We didn't stop going forward when we scored the third goal and it was a mistake because Olympiacos had other chances to score. Some players need more experience as Real Madrid had a young team out there tonight. Robinho is our player and we need to find a way to treat him well because we need him playing like he did tonight. We needed this victory because the three points lift us near to a knockout round place. We suffered too much tonight but the victory is the result of our hard work. I don't like these kind of matches but we take positive conclusions from tonight. If we finish in first place in the group, Olympiacos and Werder Bremen will fight for the second qualifying spot.
Panagiotis Lemonis, Olympiacos coach
I feel proud and sad, but this is a new team and our mentality tonight will help us in the future. I'm sure the next match against Real Madrid will be difficult too but we believe that we are building a great team. There is no secret, our new players want to play as a team together and we are watching the result of this. I don't want to use the calculator yet, as I'm only thinking about our next match with Real Madrid.
Iker Casillas is the best goalkeeper in the world right now, his last save was amazing. Sometimes you lose but you take good feelings from the match, we feel confident and we will try to repeat this effort in the next match.
