PSV Eindhoven caretaker coach Jan Wouters hailed a "very important" win at PFC CSKA Moskva as Jefferson Farfán's goal late in the first half kept their hopes of progress from UEFA Champions League Group G alive. CSKA cannot now even qualify for the UEFA Cup, and Valeri Gazzaev bemoaned missed chances as his depleted team dominated but could not force a goal.
Valeri Gazzaev, CSKA coach
What we missed today was the ability to turn chances into goals. Overall I am satisfied with my players' commitment, and they did their best to win. The quality of our game was not bad, we missed four key players – Daniel Carvalho, Jô and Miloš Krasić because of injures and Vágner Love because of family circumstances. They could have added some quality. In this Champions League campaign most of the points were lost due to individual errors and today PSV had one very good counterattack.
Jan Wouters, PSV coach
We had some problems in defence in the first half. In the second we played better but in the final minutes we had some problems again. Generally we played quite well, this was a very important game, a chance for us to stay in the Champions League. The quality of play was influenced by the pitch but that was the same for both teams. There were some rumours that key CSKA players would be absent and we were ready to play different schemes depending on the situation.
