Luis Aragonés reflected on watching his Fenerbahçe SK team produce "their best football of the season" in the first half of the Group G game against FC Porto – a half which brought two goals for the visitors en route to a 2-1 victory. Maximum points moved the Dragons into the knockout rounds with a match to spare, the best way to answer Porto's critics according to coach Jesualdo Ferreira, who is confident his side will record the home win they need against Arsenal on Matchday 6 to top Group G.
Luis Aragonés, Fenerbahçe coach
In the first 35 minutes we played our best football of the season. We had a lot of chances but we couldn't take them, and Porto did. In football if you don't take your chances and the other team do then you will lose, which is what happened. We didn't deserve this result. It doesn't matter how well you play, at the end the result will tell its own story. We are now looking forward to going to Kiev to play for a place in the UEFA Cup.
Jesualdo Ferriera, Porto coach
We're in a difficult group so to get nine points from five games is a big success for us. When we get home we'll celebrate this victory. We feel we will qualify for the next stage as group winners. A lot of people have criticised my players and the team but what we've achieved is the perfect answer to them. I want to remind them that the team is still young and inexperienced in Champions League terms. I want to congratulate the players one by one as they all did their best in this, the fifth match of the group. They didn't lose their motivation or control of the game at any time. The atmosphere was very good in the stadium; the fans were right behind Fenerbahçe. My players could have been affected by it, but they weren't.
