Kiss ready to take pot shots at Lyon

Debreceni VSC captain Zoltán Kiss warned Olympique Lyonnais to expect a long-range bombardment in Budapest with an encouraging 1-0 loss at Liverpool FC having seen the Hungarian champions "prove people wrong".

Encouraging defeat
Defeat at Anfield in their UEFA Champions League Group E opener was a much less emphatic result than most had expected, and Kiss believes his side can take plenty of confidence from that game into their home group-stage debut against Lyon. "A 1-0 in Liverpool was a good result for us in that we managed to prove people wrong when they said we'd lose by a lot," he said. "But now, for us to have a chance against Lyon, the team has to be together; the defence must be very good and if we counterattack then we can be dangerous."

Pacy forward
As they look to hit Lyon on the break, the searing pace of Paris-born forward Adamo Coulibaly – a summer signing who previously played in Belgium for K. Sint-Truidense VV and R. Antwerp FC – may prove crucial. "We will be more defensive than we would normally be because Lyon would dominate us in an open game, so the pace of Coulibaly will be important for us," the 29-year-old Kiss said. "Of course, shots from outside the area are one of our specialities; we have three or four players who can shoot well from distance, and I hope one or two of their shots go in."

Crazy game
Kiss featured in the Debrecen lineup that drew 4-4 with Kaposvári Rákóczi FC on Friday, with goalkeeper Vukašin Poleksić missing a last-minute penalty as the champions missed out on all three points. "We're not angry at Vukašin; these things happen in football," said Kiss. "In the first half we played sleepily, but in the second we woke up and came back from behind so we must take this momentum into tomorrow's game. It will be very difficult because Lyon are one of the best teams in Europe. We have to play our best, or even at more than 100 per cent of our ability, to be successful."
