Miloš Krasić said he was "lucky" to have struck so well the goal that earned PFC CSKA Moskva a 2-1 victory against VfL Wolfsburg which drew the Army Men level with their opponents in UEFA Champions League Group B.
After Edin Džeko gave the second-placed visitors a first-half lead, CSKA upped the tempo after half-time and their pressure told when Tomáš Necid equalised before the hour. Krasić completed the turnaround on 66 minutes with a long-range effort that flew past Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio. "I collected the ball from [Evgeni] Aldonin, saw nobody was going to tackle me and aimed for the far corner," said the 25-year-old. "I was lucky to hit it so well. We were stronger tonight and deserved to win."
CSKA's second-half display was in stark contrast to that of the first when Leonid Slutski's side were fortunate not to go two down on 32 minutes when Zvjezdan Misimović shot wide. "I don't know why we were like that," added Krasić, whose strike added to his eight league goals this term. "It just happens sometimes. Wolfsburg have plenty of quality players – like Džeko and Misimović – and they played well. But what matters is we managed to show spirit and come back into the match quickly. We created some chances in the first half and played great in the second. Yes, we could have made it 3-1 or even 4-1 but a win is still a win."
Trailing Wolfsburg on head-to-head record, CSKA require a better result in Istanbul against eliminated Beşiktaş JK than the German champions manage at home to group leaders Manchester United FC if they are to progress. With their destiny out of their hands, Krasić is demanding a similar performance in Turkey to ensure they give themselves a chance of progress. "We are very happy because we won a very tough match," he continued. "We showed our real level, playing some good football. We should not think about the other match, we still have a chance. If we play the same way against Beşiktaş, we will definitely be in contention."
