SC Braga boss Domingos Paciência was left wondering how his team managed to "miss so many opportunities" as the Portuguese newcomers followed up their 6-0 Group H defeat at Arsenal FC with a 3-0 loss against FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The visitors' Mircea Lucescu saw things differently, although the coaches did find common ground with their praise for Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.
Domingos Paciência, Braga coach
Shakhtar were very efficient. We could have taken charge of the match in the first half with all the chances we had. It's incredible how you can miss so many opportunities to score.
With three chances Shakhtar scored twice and after losing 3-0 what can you say about a team who did everything to score? We didn't manage it, we had no luck but I could not point to anything.
When you lose 3-0 and Shakhtar's goalkeeper is the man of the match ... we haven't started well in the Champions League but we didn't deserve this. We deserved it in the first match [6-0 defeat at Arsenal] but not today.
Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar coach
We fully deserved the win, without a doubt: we controlled the game for 90 minutes. In the first half we tried to control possession and evade Braga's pressing defence.
After the break Braga opened up, started to show more attacking purpose and that was exactly what we needed because we were able to exploit the space that appeared.
We used the speed of Douglas [Costa] and Willian: they had the beating of their markers and created a numerical advantage for us going forward. Braga had their chances too, and Andriy Pyatov saved the day for us several times. We looked to release our strikers with through balls and this brought us our goals. Our experience at this level told.
