Preud'homme frustrated by Twente fate

Michel Preud'homme said FC Twente "should have won" against SV Werder Bremen after their late lead did not last and Thomas Schaaf praised the man that made it 1-1, Marko Arnautović.

FC Twente seemed to have beaten SV Werder Bremen through Theo Janssen's goal only for the Dutch side's former player Marko Arnautović to equalise within five minutes leaving home coach Michel Preud'homme to rue the win that was not to be. Bremen, like Twente, moved on to two UEFA Champions League Group A points and Thomas Schaaf had praise for Arnautović.

Michel Preud'homme, Twente coach
Our primary goal is to be still in Europe after the winter break. Only after that is achieved will we see what other opportunities are available to us. Today we had the chance to draw level with Tottenham in the rankings and also move three points ahead of our opponents. In the end we did not manage to do so and that is something we have to learn lessons from. Of course we had hoped to get the three points at home, certainly after taking the lead. Now we will have to do it in the match in Bremen.

Before the start we knew that in terms of quality a difficult task awaited us. And that became reality. We should have won this home match to stay in a good position. We did not manage to do so. And when we took the lead, that was when it went wrong. The equaliser should not have happened. Even after that we still had good chances to win it. Unfortunately we did not convert them.

Thomas Schaaf, Bremen coach
In the end it was important for us that we played better football in the second half. It was crucial we put a lot of pressure on them early and attacked faster. That's why the goal we conceded was quite surprising. We have to take the positive aspects from this game to the next one. We have played better football than in the previous games. That was positive.

Tim Wiese twisted his knee, but it doesn't look like a cruciate ligament rupture, and his replacement Sebastian Mielitz did a good job. Marko Arnautović scored a great goal, there he showed his class. The assist was superb as well. Arnautović is capable of doing special things on the pitch.
