Holders look to bounce back against Twente

After defeat on Matchday 4, FC Internazionale Milano get another chance to progress when they take on an FC Twente side who have renewed hope following a first victory last time out.

FC Internazionale Milano get a second chance to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League's knockout stage for the seventh successive season when they take on FC Twente at San Siro on Matchday 5.

• The holders blew their lines last time out when losing 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur FC, a result that allowed the English club to overtake them at the Group A summit. They will hope to make amends against a Twente side who revived their own hopes on Matchday 4 with a victory at SV Werder Bremen that left them just two points behind the leading pair.

Match background
• Twente earned a 2-2 draw with Inter when the teams met in the Netherlands on Matchday 1 but the Nerazzurri are a more daunting proposition on home soil where they have won their last six UEFA Champions League games.

• Inter have also won their last three home meetings with Dutch opposition, most recently a 2-0 success against PSV Eindhoven in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage.

• The Italian club have an overall record of five wins, one draw and two defeats against Eredivisie sides at San Siro.

• Dejan Stanković was their scorer when they beat AFC Ajax 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 in 2005/06 – a result that sealed a 3-2 aggregate win.

• Inter's biggest match against Dutch opposition was the 1971/72 European Champion Clubs' Cup final against Ajax in Rotterdam which they lost 2-0, thanks to two goals by Johan Cruyff.

• This is only the second Italian team Twente have faced having beaten Juventus home (3-1) and away (1-0) in the 1974/75 UEFA Cup semi-finals. They lost 5-1 on aggregate to VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the final.

Team ties
• Inter coach Rafael Benítez has never lost against Dutch opposition in the UEFA Champions League. During his time at Liverpool FC he recorded five wins and a draw against PSV. He previously oversaw two draws against Ajax with Valencia CF.

• Twente coach Michel Preud'homme last encountered Italian opposition as coach of Belgian side KAA Gent, suffering a 7-1 home defeat by AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round last year – a result that completed a 10-2 aggregate loss.

• As a player, Preud'homme had mixed fortunes against Serie A clubs. With KV Mechelen he won a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final against Atalanta BC in 1988, but lost to UC Sampdoria at the same stage of that competition in 1989. He was in the SL Benfica side that went down to Milan in the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

• Wesley Sneijder and Twente's Sander Boschker were members of the Netherlands squad that reached the 2010 FIFA World Cup final. Sneijder, an Ajax player from 2002 to 2007, spent a year alongside Boschker in Amsterdam, although the goalkeeper did not make a single appearance during that 2003/04 campaign – his only season outside Enschede.

• Wout Brama appeared alongside Sneijder in the Netherlands' UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying win against Sweden last month.

• Theo Janssen was in the Vitesse team that draw 0-0 at Inter in the 2000/01 UEFA Cup second round but went out on away goals after a 1-1 home draw.

• Cristian Chivu also played for Ajax, from 1999 to 2003. He scored a penalty in a 5-1 win against Twente in Amsterdam on 17 December 2000 and again on 25 May 2003 as Ajax won 2-1 away.

• Nikolay Mihaylov joined Benítez at Liverpool in June 2007 but did not make a first-team appearance before moving onto Twente two months later, initially on loan.
