Carlo Ancelotti wants Chelsea FC to put their current run of three Premier League losses in four games behind them and take the "great chance" they have against MŠK Žilina to clinch first place in UEFA Champions League Group F. Žilina, without a point, need victory and an FC Spartak Moskva loss to Olympique de Marseille to have any chance of UEFA Europa League football after their 7-0 home defeat by OM, but coach Pavel Hapal says they are "determined to make up for it" at Stamford Bridge.
Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea manager
Our aim in the Champions League is to win the group. Obviously we want to have control and we want to close out this group. We don't want to have a surprise in the last game against Marseille. We have a great chance to win the group tomorrow night.
At the moment everything seems wrong. But we are at the top of the table and we have won all four games in the Champions League.
The problem is on the pitch. This season we shoot 200 times on the goal. The first ten times we shot we had 21% average converted, the last 100 shots, we had just 5% converted on goal, so this is the reason we need to be more focused and concentrating on shots. The play of the team did not change. That is the reason and there we have to work.
Pavel Hapal, Žilina coach
The big loss we suffered against Marseille in the Champions League was difficult to go through, but we are determined to make up for it against Chelsea and show our quality, although it will obviously be very difficult after such a big loss to Marseille.
If you think about our team, we have already played 30 games. Because of the Champions League as well I think we are slightly tired and we have been losing a few domestic games recently. We will have to change our style a little bit, compared to the game against Marseille. We want to stay strong at the back and hopefully hit Chelsea on the counterattack. We have four good attacking players in our team, so I hope we can do well.
Michael Essien (toe), Alex (knee) and John Terry (back) remain out of contention along with long-term absentees Frank Lampard (hernia then groin) and Yossi Benayoun (Achilles). John Obi Mikel has a slight knee problem and Yuri Zhirkov is doubtful due to a calf injury. Ancelotti said that defender Jeffrey Bruma and midfielder Joshua McEachran would play.
Patrik Mráz has not played since Matchday 2 because of a thigh injury. Otherwise, the Slovakian side are at full strength.
20/11/10 Birmingham City FC 1-0 Chelsea
Chelsea lost for the second successive Premier League game, the first time the Londoners have suffered two league reverses in a row since May 2006. The English champions have failed to score in four of their last five away league matches.
19/11/10 FK Senica 2-1 Žilina
(Divis 66, Smetana 80; Oravec 55)
Defeat at Senica ended Žilina's unbeaten start to the Superliga season. The Slovakian titleholders had not lost a league match since a 2-0 defeat at ŠK Slovan Bratislava on 24 March, a run of 25 games.
