First & second qualifying rounds

Thirty-six clubs enter the draw for the opening two qualifying rounds of the competition, four of whom begin their campaigns at the first stage.

20 June, Nyon

The long road to the UEFA Champions League final begins as 36 teams enter the draws for the first two qualifying rounds of the competition.

The first qualifying round comprises two two-legged ties involving the champions of the countries ranked 50 to 53 in UEFA competition, with the highest-ranked pair seeded.

Slots for the winners of those two ties will be set aside in the second qualifying round draw, when they are joined by 32 countries ranked 17 to 49 in UEFA competition (except Liechtenstein). The 34 teams are divided into one group (Group 1) of ten teams, and into two groups (Groups 2 and 3) of 12 teams. Each group is made up of equal numbers of seeded and unseeded sides.

As with the first qualifying round draw, balls containing the seeded clubs will be placed in one bowl, with balls of the unseeded clubs placed in another. A ball will be taken from each bowl and placed in a large empty bowl in the middle, where they will be shuffled. The first team drawn will play its first match at home, against the second team drawn.

Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn together in either round.
