Swedish champions Malmö FF beat HB Tórshavn 2-0 to establish a first-leg cushion in their UEFA Champions League second round qualifying round tie.

After a goalless first half it was Malmö who came out firing after the break, taking the lead shortly before the hour through Dardan Rexhepi. The 1979 European Champion Clubs' Cup runners-up duly extended their advantage 13 minutes from time when Rógvi Holm inadvertently turned into his own net.

Malmö asserted their authority on the contest from the outset and were unfortunate not to be ahead at the break, Wílton Figueiredo providing Tórshavn goalkeeper Teitur Gestson with the sternest test. Rikard Norling's side continued in the same manner after the interval and the breakthrough finally arrived on 58 minutes when Rexhepi headed in a Jimmy Durmaz cross.

That lead was doubled on 77 minutes when Holm put a Figueiredo delivery past Gestson. Malmö maintained their cushion to ensure they travel to Torshavn next Tuesday with a potentially decisive upper hand.
