Score draw suits Genk as Partizan crash out

FK Partizan 1-1 KRC Genk (agg: 2-3)
Jelle Vossen's second-half penalty cancelled out Nemanja Tomić's strike to seal a narrow aggregate victory for the Belgian champions.

KRC Genk booked their place in the UEFA Champions League play-offs at the expense of FK Partizan with a 1-1 draw in Belgrade.

Trailing 2-1 from last week's first leg in Belgium, Partizan levelled the aggregate score on 40 minutes through Nemanja Tomić. However, Jelle Vossen equalised from the penalty spot for the Belgian champions after Aleksandar Miljković was penalised for handling inside the box and, despite some late pressure from the hosts, Genk held on to progress.

Partizan started brightly with Zvonimir Vukić and Marko Šćepović both testing László Koteles in the visitors' goal inside the opening half-hour. Frank Vercauteren's side defended their first-leg lead with vigour but their resistance was broken five minutes before the break when Tomić met Vladimir Volkov's cross to give the hosts the lead on the night.

Buoyed by their goal the Serbian champions were immediately on the offensive in the second half only to be pegged back when Miljković handled the ball inside the area to give Genk a penalty, somewhat against the run of play. Vossen converted to put his side back in front on aggregate.

With 20 minutes remaining Šćepović appeared to have put Partizan back on level terms but Koteles saved superbly to deny the hosts. Genk saw out the remainder of the match and will learn their play-off opponents in Friday's draw.
