Didier Deschamps, Marseille coach
We had a final to play tonight; unfortunately, we lost without having delivered the game we expected. Even a draw would have been enough tonight. I cannot say Olympiacos's win is undeserved. We struggled to keep the ball and create chances. We made some, but it was not enough to win. We lost in the final minutes to Arsenal [1-0 at home] but it was a twist of fate to concede at that point in the game, whatever the match.
Steve Mandanda did not deserve to concede because without him we would have conceded far earlier.
Our team play was way below par. My feeling therefore is a great disappointment. I have not lost hope but it is a setback regarding what I expected from my team. We just lost a chance to go through. However, we have to recover and think about Sunday [against Paris Saint-Germain FC] when we play a team who have not played in midweek.
Ernesto Valverde, Olympiacos coach
The series of injuries and setbacks only made us stronger. We should not talk that much about the players missing from action, but focus on the ones who are here and fight. They played a great game and I would like to congratulate them. Despite our problems, they went out on the pitch and did what they had to. We deserved more out of our previous two outings in the group stage, but today finally we made it. We were very well prepared for tonight's match,
we knew how to defend their set pieces and we knew that we had a realistic chance of winning – we did just that.
