A winner of 20 domestic trophies with FC Dynamo Kyiv, the club with whom he has spent his entire career, racking up over 500 appearances, Olexandr Shovkovskiy is a legendary figure also for Ukraine, notably thanks to his imperious efforts at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He is set to end his 18-year international career at UEFA EURO 2012.

• Shovkovskiy came up through the Dynamo youth academy and made his first-team debut in 1993, winning the first of eight consecutive Ukrainian titles that season.

• Became the club's No1 in 1994/95 and remained as such for the best part of a decade and a half, accumulating 343 Ukrainian Premier League appearances by the end of the 2010/11 season.

• Won his first international cap against Estonia on 13 November 1994 and was still his country's No1 a dozen years later, starting all five matches in Germany as Ukraine reached the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup thanks in no small part to his clean sheet in the last-16 penalty shoot-out against Switzerland; won his 90th cap in a friendly versus Uruguay in September 2011.

• Reached the quarter-finals of the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League with Dynamo and the last four a year later; passed the milestone of 100 European appearances in a UEFA Champions League group game against FC Rubin Kazan on 24 November 2009.

• Increased his number of major domestic honours to 20 (12 championships, eight cups) when he won 2008/09 Premier League title; reached 500 appearances in all competitions for Dynamo in 2010/11.
