UEFA European Under-21 Championship: winner 2004
• Amelia began his professional career in 2002 with Livorno in Serie B having played youth football for Roma; loan spells at Lecce and Parma followed before he rejoined Livorno in Serie A after the club's promotion and helped them to a surprise sixth-place finish in in 2005/06.
• Played eight UEFA Cup matches the following campaign, during which he headed a late equaliser against FK Partizan (1-1) in the UEFA Cup group stage.
• Ever-present in Italy's triumphant 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship campaign and a bronze medalist at the Athens Olympics later that summer, he made his senior international debut against the Ivory Coast (1-1) in November 2005.
• Having been an unused member of Italy's victorious 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, Amelia appeared in Roberto Donadoni's first game as Azzurri coach – against Croatia (0-2) – on his home ground, the Stadio Armando Picchi in Livorno; one outing in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying but unused again at the finals in Austria/Switzerland.
• Landed at Palermo in a €6m deal in summer 2008 following Livorno's relegation and played 34 league matches for the Rosanero before joining Genoa in 2009/10, where he made 30 Serie A appearances.
• Moved on a year-long loan to Milan in summer 2010 to provide competition for Christian Abbiati and Flavio Roma following the departure of Dida; made his UEFA Champions League debut against Real Madrid CF (0-2) on Matchday 3 and his first league outing in a 4-4 draw with Udinese Calcio early in the new year.
