Debrecen come from behind to see off Skënderbeu

Debreceni VSC 3-0 KS Skënderbeu (agg: 3-1)
Defeated 1-0 in Albania last week, Debrecen reasserted themselves at home thanks to two goals from Adamo Coulibaly and one from József Varga.

Debreceni VSC moved a step closer to the UEFA Champions League group stage thanks to a 3-0 home win against KS Skënderbeu.

Debrecen came into the second leg of this second qualifying round tie trailing 1-0 from last week's opening instalment in Albania, but did not take long to reassert their authority. Adamo Coulibaly struck the first blow after 12 minutes, with József Varga adding a second just before the hour. It was not until three minutes from time, however, that their progress was assured thanks to Coulibaly's second of the night.

It was a merited victory for Debrecen, who dominated proceedings from the off. Varga had already tested visiting keeper Orges Shehi with a firm header by the time Coulibaly put the Hungarian champions in front when he slotted in the rebound after Péter Szakály's effort had been parried. Coulibaly could have put Debrecen in front overall just after the half-hour but headed wide.

The second arrived on 58 minutes, though, when Varga lashed in from close range after setting his team on the attack with a fine tackle. Shehi then kept out Szakály's long-range effort and Mihály Korhut hit the woodwork but the inevitable third came with three minutes remaining. Coulibaly held off a Skënderbeu defender and tucked into the net after a delightful back-heel from László Rezes.

Debrecen, who reached the group stage in 2009, will take on FC BATE Borisov or FK Vardar in the third qualifying round. The Belarusian champions are 3-2 up heading into Wednesday's second leg.
