An early header from Oleh Gusev set FC Dynamo Kyiv en route to victory against GNK Dinamo Zagreb in Oleh Blokhin's first UEFA Champions League match as a coach.
The atmosphere inside the NSK Olimpiyskyi was expectant as the home fans prepared to welcome one of the city's most famous footballing sons into the dugout, and it went up another notch when Gusev rose to power in former Dinamo midfielder Ognjen Vukojević's cross.
We should have scored two or three [more] goals and ended the game with a bigger winning margin because we didn't let them create anything.

Oleh Blokhin, Dynamo coach
Dynamo deserved to win. We didn't expect to concede such an early goal, so it was a difficult situation for us, but we managed to react well after it.

Ante Čačić, Dinamo coach

Bogdan Buga (@UEFAcomBogdanB), NSK Olimpiyskyi: Dynamo were full value for three points. The hosts were better in every department and, having scored two goals before the break, were ultimately able to ease up in the second half. Oleh Gusev deserves special mention, as does Ognjen Vukojević for an excellent defensive midfield display.
