FC Barcelona produced a scintillating first-half display to reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stage and end the qualification hopes of FC Spartak Moskva in the process.
The Blaugrana were inspired by Lionel Messi, who had a role in all three goals. The Argentinian international's mesmerising run helped set up Daniel Alves's fine 16th-minute opener, before he doubled his side's lead with a scuffed effort. The 25-year-old completed the scoring six minutes before the break with his fifth goal in as many Group G outings.
Had we put away some of our chances in the first half, perhaps the result might have been different. In the end, it went as expected.

Unai Emery, Spartak coach
We knew we had to start the game strongly and that we could not allow what happened against Celtic to occur here again. We controlled the match.

Lionel Messi set one up and scored the other two, as Barcelona wrapped up progress to the knockout phase with a convincing win. The result means Spartak's dreams of progressing end, and they must hope for a favour from Celtic at Benfica this evening if they are to retain hopes of making it into the UEFA Europa League.
