A splendid defensive display allied with second-half goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari earned AC Milan a 2-0 win against FC Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
Having faced the Azulgrana four times in the competition last season, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri's inside knowledge paid off as his team prevented the visitors scoring for just the second time in any competition this term. Their resilience was rewarded with Boateng's 57th-minute opener, Muntari icing the cake late on to confirm a fourth defeat of the campaign for the Spanish Liga leaders.
We played a great game defensively. Barça made our life difficult in the first half, we stayed focused and now we can enjoy this beautiful night.

Massimiliano Allegri, Milan coach
They found a couple of opportunities and scored from them, which now makes things tricky for us. It will be a different story in the second leg.

Jordi Roura, Barcelona assistant coach

An outstanding Milan performance is rewarded with an excellent win. Clinical finishes from Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari after the break give the hosts a two-goal lead to take to Barcelona, who for all their possession never really threatened Christian Abbiati thanks to a great defensive showing.
