Jakub Kosecki's equaliser gave Legia Warszawa an invaluable 1-1 UEFA Champions League play-off first leg draw at FC Steaua București but he shared the credit with visiting goalkeeper Dušan Kuciak.
Although Kuciak was beaten 34 minutes in by Federico Piovaccari, Kosecki levelled early in the second half and he was clearly happy to take Legia a step closer to their first group stage campaign in 18 years. Steaua goalkeeper Ciprian Tătărușanu said: "Victory has slipped through our fingers."
Jakub Kosecki, Legia forward
It was a very hard game for us. We played well and we deserved to win. Indeed, Steaua played a good match and had some chances, but not so many and finally we have to respect what we have and what we achieved and we have to be happy. And we are. Football means scoring goals and when you don't score, you don't win.
Why did we achieve this draw? Because we have a very good goalkeeper and very good players. From my point of view, I want to always give my best on the pitch and I am happy with this result.
Ciprian Tătărușanu, Steaua goalkeeper
I might say that victory has slipped through our fingers. It was obvious to everybody that we dominated the match, we created many great chances, but we did not convert them. This is football, sometimes football punishes you.
I wouldn't say that if Legia would have scored a second goal it would have been a disaster. In football there is no such thing as a disaster, but it would have been a totally undeserved goal and a totally undeserved victory. Indeed, this 1-1 gives more chances now to Legia.
