Wenger lauds Arsenal's 'victory of patience'

There was frustration for Olympique de Marseille coach Élie Baup who was left to rue his side's inexperience, while Arsenal FC's Arsène Wenger enjoyed "a victory of patience".

There is disappointment, frustration, as we deserved at least to share the spoils. It would have been fair. We lacked the experience whereas teams like Arsenal have plenty. They know how to keep it tight when necessary, and that was the case for them at moments tonight. Then they know how to regroup and hit you and punish your smallest mistakes. They used all the opportunities they had to be efficient. We have to learn from that. Apart from that we produced a good game, though efficiency was on Arsenal's side.

I believe it was important to get the first goal. I thought Marseille had an excellent first half. We were a bit timid, but overall it was a victory of patience and experience, even if we were not flamboyant. We know we have all these players that can make something special happen. I knew it would be a difficult game. They have players of quality and a passionate crowd. [Mathieu] Valbuena was excellent tonight.

[Theo] Walcott scored the most difficult of his chances this season, but that will give him a much-needed confidence boost. [Aaron] Ramsey has been outstanding. Every time he is in a good position now, he scores.
