Cristiano Ronaldo scored a second-half hat-trick as Real Madrid CF opened Group B with an emphatic victory over Galatasaray AŞ.

The contest, a rerun of one of last season's quarter-finals, might have evolved differently had the normally clinical Burak Yılmaz not directed a free header wide within two minutes of the restart. Karim Benzema punished the hosts soon after, adding to Isco's composed 33rd-minute opener.

Reaction

There's not much to say, but we lost the game in a terrible way. Madrid didn't have a chance in the first half, whereas we had three or four.

When Ronaldo and Benzema have good nights it makes things easier. The result is great for us, good for boosting confidence, personality and character.
