Nenad Bjelica, Austria Wien coach
I would like to congratulate the other three teams on going through [to spring campaigns]. We lacked a bit of experience but I think we represented Austrian football well, not only today but in all six games. After the goals tonight we had a lot of confidence. You need heart and passion. That is what we showed today.
We were able to compensate for our lack of quality. Of course you also need a bit of luck, but we ran 121 kilometres. The average is 114 kilometres. The determination and will to succeed were there today.
Luciano Spalletti, Zenit coach
It's hard to receive congratulations after a game like this. As I've said many times, I value the display more than the result. We looked good in the first half and deserved to score the second goal, but then our game fell apart.
After scoring, we lost the enthusiasm and fighting spirit we had been showing in the opening minutes. We made stupid mistakes. At half-time we saw the score in Madrid. My players showed their reaction on the pitch and that can't happen to a team like Zenit.
Atlético deserved to win the group. We achieved our goal – we are through to the last 16. Based on today's performance, Austria deserve to be better ranked. It was very important for us to qualify from the group and we achieved this goal. At the same time we didn't show the football we should have.
