Momentum key for Hyypiä's Leverkusen

Sami Hyypiä urged his Bayer 04 Leverkusen team to use their fine weekend victory at Borussia Dortmund as a catalyst to overcome Real Sociedad de Fútbol in Group A.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypiä wants his side to carry their momentum from beating Borussia Dortmund at the weekend into Tuesday's UEFA Champions League Group A game at Real Sociedad de Fútbol.

Hyypiä admitted that he will be keeping a close eye on events at Old Trafford, with his team needing to better FC Shakhtar Donetsk's result against Manchester United FC to advance to the round of 16. In the opposing dugout Jagoba Arrasate is desperate to end on a "positive note", with this side resigned to finishing bottom of the section having picked up just a point to date.

Real Sociedad
Jagoba Arrasate, coach
We know it's an important match for Leverkusen but we want to win too. We are at home in front of our supporters and it's a very important game for us. We played well in our opening fixtures but lost and now the objective is to finish on a positive note. We haven't got what we deserved but that counts for nothing.

Everything has gone so quickly. It only seems like yesterday that we played against Lyon in the play-offs and now we're nearing the end. Motivation comes easily. Everyone wants to be involved in these games. We are playing a team who are close to Bayern in the German league and beat Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. They are attractive opponents and we're facing them in a great competition.

Weekend result
Friday: Algeciras CF 1-1 Real Sociedad (Alfaro 64; Griezmann 59)
Zubikarai; Zaldúa, Ansotegi, Cadamuro, De la Bella (González 72); Elustondo, Ros, Sangalli (Vela 67), Xabi Prieto, Griezmann (Agirretxe 67); Seferovic.

• Antoine Griezmann scored his 11th goal in all competitions this season in the first leg of La Real's Copa del Rey round of 32 tie against third-tier Algeciras. The return will take place in San Sebastian on 18 December.

Team news
Esteban Granero (knee ligaments) is a long-term absentee, while Iñigo Martínez is nursing a thigh strain. Arrasate may also give José Ángel and Eñaut Zubikarai their first outings in the UEFA Champions League.

Leverkusen
Sami Hyypiä, coach
We improved greatly against Dortmund and need to take that into tomorrow. Manchester United's game is important for us and will influence our match. In any case we want to win. We are going to follow the Manchester United game. If in the 75th minute we are still drawing with Real Sociedad and something happens in the other match we can take more risks and look for a win.

Maybe I'll have my phone on the bench with me. We didn't play well against Manchester United, losing 5-0. I was disappointed but that is football and these things happen. Now we want to win. Even if Sociedad decide to rest players, those coming in will have a point to prove, so it'll be tough.

Weekend result
Saturday: Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Leverkusen (Son 18)
Leno; Donati, Toprak, Spahić, Can; Bender, Rolfes, Castro (Kohr 89); Hegeler (Kruse 78), Kiessling, Son (Wollscheid 82).

• Leverkusen are now six points clear of Dortmund in second place in the Bundesliga and still just four shy of leaders FC Bayern München. Emir Spahić was sent off with ten minutes remaining, but Son Heung-Min's first-half effort proved sufficient.

Team news
Sidney Sam (thigh), Roberto Hilbert (knee) and Andrés Palop (calf) all sat out the win against Dortmund. Stefan Reinartz has been suffering with an ankle problem but could return to face La Real.

Match fact
• Leverkusen are visiting Spain for the first time since losing 7-1 at FC Barcelona in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League round of 16. It was their heaviest European defeat and completed a 10-2 aggregate reverse for Robin Dutt's side.
