Ancelotti: That was the perfect game

Carlo Ancelotti admitted "everything came off for us" as Real Madrid CF overwhelmed FC Schalke 04 6-1 in Germany, leaving the hosts to rue a crucial missed opportunity.

Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid coach
I'm satisfied with everything because that was the perfect game. My players played with togetherness and they played well. Everything came off for us. The [front three] all scored and were great but they also had help from their team-mates. Our attacking trio are very dangerous.

We must have respect for our opponents and their fans. There is a return leg to come and football can be strange. The advantage is a big one but we still have to play the second match. We weren't thinking of our bad run in Germany [Madrid had previously won just once in 25 trips], we were thinking about giving absolutely everything to win and resolve this tie as soon as possible.

I hope to repeat tonight's performance in the derby [at Club Atlético de Madrid in the Liga] on Sunday. There might be changes to the side for that game but it's hard to change things when you play like we did tonight.

Jens Keller, Schalke coach
We made too many basic errors. We had a good start to the game, playing bravely up the pitch – then we conceded the opener. It came from a mistake but we immediately had a chance [through Julian Draxler] for the equaliser. Opportunities like those don't come along all that often against sides like Real.

Perhaps it would have been a different game if we had scored, with our fans behind us. They really were in Champions League mode this evening and supported us until the final whistle.

We knew Real would use the space we would give them after they scored the opener and they simply punished us almost every time we made a mistake. We are a young team who still have lots to learn at this level. In future we have to show more determination in certain situations.
