PSV plan 'night to remember' against CSKA

PSV Eindhoven may need Manchester United to stumble, but Phillip Cocu is determined to keep his end of the bargain against a CSKA Moskva side that have lost five of their last six.

  • Phillip Cocu determined to make it a "night to remember" in Eindhoven
  • A PSV win will guarantee their progress; a draw would suffice if United lose at Wolfsburg
  • Nicolas Isimat-Mirin could start at left-back with Simon Poulsen and Jetro Willems out
  • CSKA Moskva would secure a UEFA Europa League round of 32 place with a victory
  • The Army Men are six games without a win, losing five of them

Possible lineups
PSV:
Zoet; Brenet, Bruma, Moreno, Isimat-Mirin; Hendrix, Guardado, Pröpper; Pereiro, De Jong, Locadia.
Out: Narsingh (hamstring), Willems (knee), Koch (knee), Lestienne (personal reasons), Arias (suspended), Poulsen (calf)

CSKA Moskva: Akinfeev; Nababkin, A Berezutski, Ignashevich, Cauņa; Wernbloom, Tošić, Milanov, Dzagoev; Musa, Doumbia.
Out: V Berezutski (groin), Schennikov (thigh), Eremenko (groin)
Doubtful: Fernandes (unspecified)

Phillip Cocu, PSV coach
We know about CSKA's recent problems, but they are a well-organised side with technical ability. They don't need possesion to win a match as they're very quick in the transition from defence to attack.

Our aim is to win and go through to the next round – and we are confident we can do just that without being naive. We have an enormous drive at the club to make it a night to remember.

Highlights: CSKA Moskva 3-2 PSV

We will certainly follow what is happening in the other match, but the focus will be on our own game.

Leonid Slutski, CSKA Moskva coach
Some players are a bit tired and carrying minor knocks, but for an important match we have to be ready and get a good result. We expect PSV to play on the front foot so we want to capitalise with our counterattacking style. We have seen PSV a lot and they don't really change the way they play.

This should be a fascinating cat-and-mouse encounter. PSV can finish first or last in the group and one goal could decide their fate either way. A draw will not be enough to take the Dutch champions into the round of 16 if Manchester United avoid defeat in Wolfsburg, so the onus will be on Cocu's men to dictate the play. Yet this could be exactly what CSKA, a renowned counterattacking team, are hoping for.
