Otto Rehhagel

Date of birth: 09/08/1938

In leading rank outsiders Greece to UEFA EURO 2004 glory, Rehhagel became the first non-native national coach to win the UEFA European Championship. The former SV Werder Bremen favourite's tactical brilliance turned a team of so-called no-hopers into continental champions. 'King Otto' guided Greece to UEFA EURO 2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup before stepping down after elimination in South Africa. He was six weeks short of his 72nd birthday and his decade as Greece boss somehow overshadowed achievements in his native Germany – he is the only man with over 1,000 Bundesliga games under his belt as player and coach.
