Bellamy woe hits Welsh hopes

Craig Bellamy will miss Wales's UEFA EURO 2004™ play-off after he was ruled out for up to four months.

Craig Bellamy will miss both legs of Wales's UEFA EURO 2004™ play-off after being ruled out for up to four months.

Knee trouble
The Newcastle United FC striker has had an operation in the United States to correct tendonitis in his left knee, and his club manager Sir Bobby Robson has revealed he may not return until February. Bellamy will miss Newcastle's UEFA Cup second-round tie against FC Basel and his country's two-legged tie against Russia next month for a place in Portugal next summer.

Rest and recovery
Sir Bobby said: "It was a clean-up op to take away scar tissue. He will be over there for three days and the important thing now is rehabilitation. He will be out for three to four months. If it is a bad one, it will be four months rather than three." Bellamy had similar treatment on his right knee in April last year.
