Denmark well in the hunt, says Rommedahl

Dennis Rommedahl told UEFA.com that Denmark are "in a good position" after a 2-0 win against Cyprus left them well placed to launch a tilt at the Group H leadership in 2011.

Dennis Rommedahl believes Denmark are well placed to push for top spot in Group H next year after getting the better of Cyprus last night.

Morten Olsen's side put Friday's 3-1 loss in Portugal behind them by defeating their visitors 2-0 in Copenhagen to move on to six points from three UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers. "Having six points after three matches is almost perfect," Rommedahl told UEFA.com. "We are three behind [leaders] Norway, whom we play twice next year, so we're in a good position."

The Olympiacos FC winger was at the heart of much of Denmark's attacking play, although the second-half goals were scored by substitute Morten Rasmussen and Kasper Lorentzen. "I think we played well," continued Rommedahl. "We created a lot of chances and scored two goals, while preventing Cyprus from creating almost any. It's true we missed a number of opportunities but that's something we can work on. For me it's a positive that we created so many – after all you have to create chances to score them."

Centre-back Per Krøldrup, a 39th-minute replacement for the injured Daniel Agger, added: "It's always tricky going on like that and it was a difficult match to get into, as we were dominating so there was very little defensive work to do. For me it was a question of keeping it simple and avoiding mistakes, which went well. There was a dangerous moment in the second half, partly due to my mistake, but fortunately I was able to rectify it." Next up for Denmark is a trip to pacesetters Norway on 26 March.
