Bulgaria ease past Azerbaijan

Bulgaria coach Plamen Markov used 22 players as his side enjoyed a 3-0 friendly win over Azerbaijan.

Coach Plamen Markov used all 22 players in his squad as Bulgaria enjoyed a 3-0 friendly international victory over Azerbaijan on Wednesday.

Debut goal
Markov selected only domestic-based players for the match played at the Slavia stadium, including five called-up for the first time. PFC Marek forward Veilzar Dimitrov scored on his debut after nine minutes, converting an excellent pass from Zoran Jankovic.

Jankovic penalty

PFC Litex Lovech forward Jankovic then added the second from the spot 13 minutes later after he was fouled in the penalty area. Kiril Nikolov, one of ten changes at half-time, sealed a fine victory with a goal on the hour mark. The only negative for Markov was an injury to PFC Neftochimik goalkeeper Yordan Gospodinov just before the interval, although the extent of the problem is not yet known.

Markov pleased
"I am happy that I could see all 22 players that I called-up play," said Markov. "Of course, it is still too early to say which ones I will use in the EURO 2004™ qualifying matches." His opposite number, Kazbek Tuayev, said: "I expected us to lose this match. Our squad is still young and inexperienced."
