England goalkeeper John Ruddy will miss UEFA EURO 2012 after breaking his finger in training on Thursday and has been replaced by the uncapped Jack Butland.

Ruddy, 25, earned his place in the squad after an impressive season with Norwich City FC but will have to wait a little longer to make his international debut. "Ruddy was assessed by the England medical staff and will not be able to be part of the tournament," read a statement from the Football Association (FA). "He will travel with the squad to Norway on Friday and watch the game on Saturday evening, but return to his club after arriving back in England."

Birmingham City FC's Butland, who was on the stand-by list, has represented England at Under-21 level and the 19-year-old will join up with the squad after the friendly against Norway on Saturday, in time for the final preparation game against Belgium on 2 June.

Roy Hodgson's charges take on France in their opening UEFA EURO 2012 Group D game on 11 June before matches against Sweden and co-hosts Ukraine.
