Deserved lie-in
The PSV Eindhoven player was having a lie-in along with the rest of the squad this morning before undergoing tests on the strain. "We don't know how bad it is at this instance," said Morten Olsen today. The coach replaced Rommedahl with Jesper Grønkjær, making his first appearance at UEFA EURO 2004™ after linking up late with the squad following a family bereavement.
Late goal
"I didn't feel too confident about sending Jesper on so early as I didn't expect him to be able to see out the match having only trained for two days. During the last 20 minutes I considered substituting him but, fortunately for us, I didn't," added Olsen with reference to Grønkjær's strike in added time. Jon Dahl Tomasson opened the scoring in the 44th minute.
'Great effort'
Olsen has watched the Braga victory on video and liked what he saw. "I think it was a great team effort," he said. "We stuck on their key players and put them under so much pressure that they didn't get their first corner until the 50th minute. However, as the second goal didn't come until injury time I was nervous that they would equalise.
Scandinavian showdown
"Had we scored our second goal early in the second half I think we could have repeated Sweden's 5-0 win against Bulgaria." Olsen is relishing the Scandinavian showdown on Tuesday, with both Nordic neighbours able to progress if Italy fail to beat Bulgaria. A 2-2 draw will also see Denmark and Sweden into the quarter-finals.
'Attractive football'
"Sweden are playing more attractive football than they did some years ago, but remain very well organised," said Olsen. "We will also have to adjust our way of playing to account for their style as they play differently to our first two opponents. I consider them a much better team since Henrik Larsson returned." Sweden drew 1-1 with Italy last night.
