Late show finishes off Finland

Two late goals by the Korean Republic condemned Finland to a 2-0 friendly defeat.

Two late goals by the Korean Republic condemned Finland to a 2-0 defeat in a friendly played at La Manga, Spain.

Key men out
Both goals on Wednesday came from substitute Hwang Sun-hong and was nothing more than the 2002 FIFA World Cup co-hosts deserved for their greater skill and attacking flair. Finland, missing key men Jari Litmanen and Sami Hyypiä because of their UEFA Champions League commitments with Liverpool FC, struggled to create many opportunities.

Forssell threatened
Hwang grabbed the first goal after 86 minutes with a fine right-foot strike into the roof of the net and struck again a minute from time when he turned in a cross from the right. His team were cheered on by about 200 extremely vocal fans on the south-east coast of Spain who saw Ahn Jung-hwan twice go close early on before Seol Ki-hyeon forced a good save from goalkeeper Jussi Jääskelainen. Only Mikaël Forssell really threatened for Finland but there was to be no way through.
