Injury boost for Portugal

Portugal have received a lift with the confirmation that defender Jorge Andrade and striker Nuno Gomes should be fit to face the Netherlands tomorrow night.

Fitness test
Jorge Andrade, the 26-year-old RC Deportivo La Coruña player, picked up a right ankle injury last Thursday in the quarter-final against England. However, he has made steady progress and had said himself on Sunday that he expected to be fit. Team doctor Henrique Jones confirmed today that Jorge Andrade had since passed a fitness test and was set to train as normal this afternoon.

No problems
Jones also revealed that Nuno Gomes, who also hurt the same ankle against England, was likely to be involved in the same session. His fitness test was taking place at lunchtime today but the doctor did not expect there to be any problems.

Pauleta may return
However, while Jorge Andrade is an almost certain starter against the Dutch given his speedier recovery, Nuno Gomes may have to be content with a place on the bench with Pauleta returning from a one-match ban to lead the attack.
