A dominant Latvia side beat Luxembourg 3-0 in an international friendly on Wednesday.
Comfortable victory
Goals from Andrejs Rubins, Juris Laizans and Maris Verpakovskis secured the visitors' a comfortable victory. Latvia should have taken the lead in the 20th minute, but Maris Verpakovskis failed to convert an easy chance from Imants Bleidelis' corner.
Gillet save
Two minutes later, Rubins gave Latvia the lead, winning the ball from midfield player Luc Holtz to score. Luxembourg goalkeeper Stephane Gillet then fended off another attempt by Bleidelis, punching the ball away with both hands.
Pressure heaped on
Heaping on the pressure, the Latvians scored their second goal in the 59th minute when Gillet sent the ball to the feet of Laizans who slotted it into the back of the net. Verpakovskis added a third in the 72nd minute. It was Luxembourg's first loss under new coach Danois Allan having drawn 0-0 with Albania in February.
