Yugoslavia lose on Ronaldo return

Brazil 1-0 YugoslaviaYugoslavia lost in a match that saw Ronaldo return for Brazil.

Brazil 1-0 Yugoslavia
Yugoslavia put up a solid showing despite defeat against Brazil in a match marked by the long-awaited international return of Internazionale FC striker Ronaldo.

Limited chances
The European team, who are building up for the start of their EURO 2004™ qualifying campaign later this year, were strong in defence but found chances hard to come by in front of 60,000 spectators in the Brazilian north-east city of Fortaleza.

Ronaldo looked lively
Ronaldo played the first half and looked lively, but the South Americans were also lacking in creativity in forward positions. The best spell for the hosts came in the opening half hour when Ronaldo showed a willingness to run at defenders.

Kezman shackled
1903 Gremio FBPA striker Luizao, who replaced Ronaldo at half time, headed the only goal in the 72nd minute after AS Roma defender Cafu crossed from the right at the second attempt. The best attempt Yugoslavia could manage came from PSV Eindhoven striker Mateja Kezman, but he saw his shot from the edge of the area saved by Marcos.
