Romania not motivated by Greece 'revenge'

Victor Piţurcă was not concerned with revenge after Romania were drawn alongside Greece, who they lost to in the 2014 FIFA World Cup play-offs, and a "very strong" Hungary team.

Kostas Katsouranis, Greece midfielder and co-captain
It's a good draw for us, but we have to demonstrate that on the pitch. I believe we have what it takes to be among the final 24 teams. There are no powerhouses in our group, but there are some dangerous rivals. We are experienced and know how to handle tricky situations. My dream is to be a member of the team for the EURO 2016 qualifiers and final tournament. If all goes well and I make it there, it will be my last international tournament.

Attila Pintér, Hungary coach
In Hungary they always concern themselves with the opposition. However, it was unimportant who were were drawn with – what is important is how we prepare for these matches in order to give us a chance of winning. We know Romania from the recent past [they played each other in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying] and the Finnish are a disciplined team who play for each other, as we will see when we meet in a friendly next month. I ask our fans to give us their support as we will be giving our absolute best, of that I can assure them. There will be tough moments ahead, so stay in support of us and give us a chance until the end of the campaign.

Victor Piţurcă, Romania coach
I would not speak about revenge against Greece. We should have qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but we did not manage to, so qualification for EURO 2016 is a must. Matches in a play-off are not the same as matches in a group. Hungary also have a very strong team. We had a little bit of luck when we equalised in Budapest [a 2-2 draw on 22 March 2013] and the fact that the Hungarians were in pot 2 means they deserved to be there. But these are not our only opponents − we have to be careful with the others as well.

Mixu Paatelainen, Finland coach
We had some luck, I'm pleased with the draw. However, there will not be an easy match in the group and we have to be fully focused throughout. If we play to our best level we have a chance of qualifying.

Michael O'Neil, Northern Ireland manager
We've got to be pleased, to be honest. You always look at the pot one nations and, while Greece will be a very tough game, they're probably the team we'd have chosen. Looking at the group, it's teams we can compete with, so we've got to be pleased. Greece are the only team that in recent times have a track record of qualification, so that will help us.

We need to pick up points at home and learn the lessons of previous qualifications, where we dropped points against weaker nations at home. [24 qualifiers] changes the landscape dramatically; it gives everyone hope. The fans will get behind the campaign very early and it gives the players belief. One of the things we feel from the last campaign is to get points on the board early. If we can do that, the later fixtures in the group take care of themselves.

Lars Olsen, Faroe Islands coach
It could be better and it could be worse – but, given the possible options, I'm well satisfied. The three highest seeded teams are all strong, but I see possibilities against Finland and Northern Ireland. We are a small country, and for us it is about improving from match to match. We got one point in the last qualifying campaign, and hopefully we will get more this time.
