Article body
Czech Republic midfield player Vladimír Šmicer could be out of his country's EURO 2004™ qualifier with Moldova next month after breaking a bone in his toe.
Early blow
The Liverpool FC star limped off soon after opening the scoring in the second minute in Friday's 5-0 friendly victory against Yugoslavia. "It happened when I made the first tackle of the match," he said. "My toe was already broken when I struck the goal."
Baroš benefits
Šmicer claimed that Liverpool FC team-mate Milan Baroš, who was on target twice, could benefit from his absence at Anfield. "On the plus side, Milan could get the chance at Liverpool now. He's in excellent shape and deserves it," he said.
Ujfaluši double
Defender Tomáš Ujfaluši collected the remaining two goals in a match that kicked off 30 minutes late after both teams took the field in white strips. The Czechs face Moldova on 10 October.
