Goalkeepers missing in Norway squad

Nils Johan Semb has yet to decide on his goalkeepers for this month's EURO 2004™ qualifiers.

The goalkeepers were missing when Norway coach Nils Johan Semb today named a 17-man squad for the upcoming EURO 2004™ qualifying matches against Romania and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Decision on Friday
Semb will delay selecting his two goalkeepers until Friday when he will have seen both Thomas Myrhe and Frode Olsen in action. Semb hopes that Myhre, the reserve goalkeeper at English Premiership side Sunderland AFC, will be ready to return to the starting lineup in place of Frode Grodås, who played in the 2-2 draw with Denmark last month. The former Everton FC and Besiktas JK goalkeeper is short of match practice but is expected to play for Sunderland tonight.

Myhre debut
"We will watch Myhre, who has a chance of getting his first-team debut for Sunderland against Cambridge [United FC] on Tuesday night", said Semb. He will then watch Viking FK goalkeeper Frode Olsen in action against Chelsea FC in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.

No major changes
As expected, Semb made no major changes from the squad that opened Norway's Group 2 campaign with a home draw against Denmark, although midfield players Tommy Svindal Larsen and Fredrik Winsnes were recalled after impressing for their respective club sides, 1. FC Nürnberg and Hammarby IF FF. Norway meet Romania in Bucharest on 12 October and host Bosnia at the Ullevål stadium in Oslo four days later.

Norway squad
Basma, Berg, Bergdølmo, Hoftun, R Johnsen, Lundekvam, Riise, Andersen, Bakke, Carew, Iversen, F Johnsen, Svindal Larsen, Leonhardsen, Winsnes, Solskjær, Strand.
