Ukraine name Shevchenko

Andriy Shevchenko returns to the Ukraine squad against Slovakia while Serhiy Rebrov rules himself out.

AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko has been called up for the Ukraine national squad for the friendly match against Slovakia on 20 November.

Cutting edge
Coach Leonid Buryak has named five foreign-based players in a 22-man squad, including Shevchenko who is yet to appear for the national team this year after a long-term injury. Shevchenko will be joined by in-form FSV Mainz 05 forward Andriy Voronin, who has scored ten goals in 12 German second division matches this season, as well as scoring a first international goal for Ukraine against Greece in October.

Rebrov out
Buryak has left out Serhiy Rebrov after the Tottenham Hotspur FC striker requested to be excluded. "I asked the coach not to count on me until I find a club where I can play first-team football," said Rebrov, who is yet to start for Spurs this season. "The national team is everything to me and I want to play 90 minutes rather than appearing as a substitute."

New face
The squad includes only one new face, the FC Shakhtar Donetsk midfield player Serhiy Pestryakov. He becomes the 44th player Buryak has called on for the national squad this year.

Ukraine squad:
Reva, Shovkovskyi, Shutkov, Starostyak, Luzhnyi, Nesmachnyi, Fedorov, Dmitrulin, Radchenko, Yezerskyi, Zubov, Tymoschuk, Pestryakov, Husin,  Lysytskyi, Kormiltsev, Kalinichenko, Mizin, Vorobey, Shevchenko, Melaschenko, Voronin.
