Six of the best for Ukraine

Ukraine enjoyed an emphatic win while new Rangers FC forward Filip Šebo scored a hat-trick for Slovakia on a busy night that saw eight nations in friendly action.

Ukraine showed they intend to build on reaching the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals in the forthcoming UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers with an emphatic win against Azerbaijan, while a fine individual display from Filip Šebo secured a comfortable victory for Slovakia.

Ukraine 6-0 Azerbaijan
Six different players scored in Kiev as Ukraine recorded their biggest-ever victory. Despite an experimental approach, Oleh Blokhin's men were in front from the third minute when Andriy Voronin converted an Andriy Nesmachniy cross. A fine Serhiy Nazarenko free-kick nine minutes later made it 2-0 before Ruslan Rotan and Oleh Gusev took the home side into half-time 4-0 up. Blokhin made several changes during the second half and saw two of his substitutes find the net as Andriy Vorobey (72) and Olexiy Bielyk (90) completed the scoring.

Slovakia 3-0 Malta
New Rangers FC signing Šebo enjoyed a dream debut by scoring a hat-trick against Malta in Bratislava. Visiting goalkeeper Justin Haber kept out a Šebo header on eight minutes but had no chance just after the half-hour when the former FC Artmedia striker scored a deserved opener for the hosts. Malta, led by Slovakian coach Dušan Fitzel, were more involved in the second half but Šebo headed a second on 75 minutes before completing his hat-trick from a fine Ivan Hodúr pass just before full time.

Wales 0-0 Bulgaria
Defences were on top as Bulgaria left Swansea with a draw. The home side went closest to opening the scoring in the first half when a Ryan Giggs free-kick was clawed around the post by Georgi Petkov. After the break both sides had chances to take the spoils, with new Tottenham Hotspur FC striker Dimitar Berbatov firing just wide for Bulgaria and Wales midfielder Simon Davies seeing a long-range shot tipped over the bar on 75 minutes.

Slovenia 1-1 Israel
Goran Šukalo ensured Slovenia earned a creditable draw against Israel in their UEFA EURO 2008™ warm-up match in Celja. An uninspiring match burst into life in the last ten minutes with Yaniv Katan striking the frame of the goal for Israel in the 81st minute. Moments later West Ham United FC playmaker Yossi Benayoun looked like he would be the match-winner after heading the visitors into the lead, although 24-year-old Šukalo had other ideas as he restored parity just two minutes later.
